Oklahoma Voice Intern
Interested in working for an exciting nonprofit news outlet focused on Oklahoma’s capital and beyond? Apply to join Oklahoma Voice as our 2025 summer intern.
Oklahoma Voice is an online news outlet that has quickly become a go-to site for state news impacting the Sooner State. Oklahoma Voice is part of States Newsroom, the nation’s largest state-focused nonprofit news organization, with reporting from every capital.
Our talented team of four covers all the big news — from legislative and education policy to elections. In addition to appearing on oklahomavoice.com, your work could be republished by media outlets around the state under our Creative Commons license.
The intern will help cover government meetings, work on enterprise stories and write daily briefs, stories and the occasional profile. You’ll work alongside and be mentored by our reporting team.
You’ll report to Oklahoma Voice editor Janelle Stecklein.
The internship would run from May 29- Aug. 1, and is funded by the Inasmuch Foundation. The intern is required to work in our Oklahoma City office and must be willing to attend events and retreats facilitated by the Inasmuch Foundation over the course of the summer. That includes an orientation on May 29, a mid-June retreat and a farewell event.
The internship pays $15/hour and is 40 hours per week for the duration of the program. Interns are eligible for personal leave.
Applicants should:
- Have their own computer equipment and phone
- Have reliable transportation to travel to and from story assignments
- Possess journalistic integrity and judgment
- Be willing to learn
- Have excellent verbal, written and analytical skills
- Have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines and prioritizing assignments
- Have some hands-on experience and knowledge in a blend of areas including, but not limited to, digital reporting, digital photography (e.g. still and video), and digital content management; and social media is a plus

- Be at least 18 years old before the first day of the program
